How do I get the special characters in the eBooks?

This tutorial describes how to get special characters in the eBook without going into code.  These may be the times (x), the multiplication dot, an arrow, etc.

Click on the 'horse shoe' icon.

2. See list below.  NONE of these work for a minus sign! Place cursor where you would like to insert. Then click on the special character.

3. This is an example where none of these are really negatives.  I did a search for hyphen to fix them.

Unfortunately, I do not see a special character for this.  You need to go into code.  Do a command 'f' to find the hyphens.  Then highlight one of them and type −

Save.  Then find the corrected minus sign in the edit mode.  Copy it.  Paste is over all of the other hyphens that should have been minus signs.
