Please read the following important documents before actually joining CPM Slack!

Download the APP!
  • Go to: https://slack.com/downloads
  • Be sure you have the Windows version for Windows or the Mac version for Mac
  • Follow the directions for download.  
  • Add the icon to your dock.
Set Your Slack Profile
  1. Click on your identity in the upper right corner of your slack screen and choose 'Profile'.
  2. Next to your name, choose 'Edit'.
  3. Upload your picture, add your title, and set your time zone.
  4. Save changes!

Set Your Slack Notification Preferences
  • Choose 'Preferences' after clicking on your name in the upper right corner of Slack.

Set Slack Sidebar Preferences

Below are the recommended preferences for Sidebar.  While CPM does not have recommended preferences for the other items on the left side below, please review and set as desired.

Texting in Slack

In Direct Messages, find the individual or group of individuals.

  • If in the list under 'Direct Messages', text the individual from the message box.
  • If not in the list, complete the following.
    • Click the title 'Direct Messages'.
    • Add one or more names in the box 'Find or start a conversation'.
    • Click 'GO' to the right of the box.  Then text the individual or group.
Call or Huddle in Slack

In Direct Messages, find the individual or group of individuals by finding them in the list below 'Direct Messages' or by clicking 'Direct Messages' and searching/selecting their names.

  1. Click the phone icon near the top of the screen or the huddle button at the bottom left side bar. Typically the Huddle Button is for more informal calls whereas the Call Button is for formal call with an agenda.  But either one can be used in either case.
  2. You can share your screen.
  3. Someone else can share their screen

Using Channels in Slack
  1. At the beginning of all of your channels, click 'Add Channels'. You will be given the option to Create a new channel or Browse the existing channels.
  2. To find a channel, click Browse channels. start typing the name until it pops up. Click the name when found! It will appear in your Channel list.  If you want to join, click 'Join Channel' to post to the channel and to view other people's posts.
